Rehab: Find Treatment Now!

At the beginning it is important to know that drug addiction can be conquered with rehab. It takes hope, determination and treatment by skilled specialists. It is a difficult task, akin to steadily climbing a hill with a heavy load, other physical hardships and constant fear. But the good news is that reaching the top of the hill is a 100% certainty!

Emergency Help

First and foremost, if at this moment you are in a state of crisis, call any of these numbers NOW for immediate help and guidance:

· The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) (800) 662-HELP

· National Institute on Drug Abuse Hotline (800) 662-4357

· Cocaine Anonymous (800) 347-8998

· National Help Line for substance abuse (800) 262-2463

Finding a Rehab Center

If you are not in a crisis situation, you should find a nearby quality rehab center by emailing or phoning the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (“CARF”). Their email address is bh@carf.org, their web address is carf.org; their telephone numbers and postal addresses are:

CARF International
4891 E. Grant Road
Tucson, AZ 85712 USA
(520) 325-1044 or toll-free (888) 281-6531 voice/TTY
(520) 318-1129 fax

CARF Canada
10665 Jasper Avenue, Suite 1400A
Edmonton, AB T5J 3S9 Canada
(780) 429-2538 voice
(780) 426-7274 fax

CARF-CCAC
1730 Rhode Island Avenue NW, Suite 209
Washington, DC 20036 USA
(202) 587-5001 or toll-free (866) 888-1122 voice
(202) 587-5009 fax

In the unlikely event that CARF does not know of nearby rehab centers, go back to the emergency phone numbers and ask them for this information.

Types of Rehab Programs

Rehab programs are offered in many formats. They can be inpatient (long or short stay), outpatient or residential. The nature, severity and stage of the affliction usually determine which one is most suitable.

Rehab programs administered in licensed hospitals are always better than those administered at home because in a hospital all treatment must meet rigorous standards.

Evaluating a RehabCenter

The first step in evaluating a rehab center is to telephone them and inquire about their services. Here are some suggested questions:

· What are the programs you have available?

· How long have you been operating?

· In which geographical area are you? Is there a bus stop or train station nearby?

· What are your working hours and days?

· Do your staff members speak my language? Are there bilingual staff members? If I’m deaf, do they know sign language?

· How will your programs help solve my addiction problem?

· Am I eligible for your programs?

· Are the applicable programs covered by any funding agencies (like insurance, Medicare or Medicaid)?

· What will I have to pay for myself?

· Could you give me patient references so that I can ask them about their experience with you?

Do not consider centers whose answers were indifferent, rude, hazy, unsympathetic or poorly worded, and in this way arrive at a shortlist of centers. You will have to visit centers on the shortlist to further evaluate them, so keep the size of the shortlist within practical limits.

When you visit a center to check it out, here are the aspects you should consider (it is advisable to take a family member or close friend with you so that you will have more than your own opinion to consider when making your evaluation of the center):

· Do the staff members treat patients with respect and compassion?

· Do the staff members respect differences in culture?

· Are the premises clean? Are the fittings in good repair?

· Are there necessary facilities for patients such as adequate medical specialists, medical drugs and equipment?
Here are questions to ask of staff members in the center you are visiting:

· What programs are available here?

· Once I sign up, how long does it take to start?

· Could I see a schedule of activities connected with my program?

· How will the services be customized to my particular situation?

· What type of residential accommodation do you have, if my program requires it?

· What part will I play in configuring my program?

· How can my family and dear ones be involved in the program?

· What facilities do you provide for patient complaints and corresponding program correction?

· Do you provide transportation if required?

· Is personal nurse or orderly care available in case I am physically incapable of attending to basic needs?

Finally, address the issue of quality by asking these questions:

· Could you show me examples of how your programs have succeeded?

· Do you consult former patients when revising or expanding your programs?

· How are you involved with your community?

· What are the qualifications of your staff members?

· Could I please see your accreditations?
Based on the answers, the most suitable center will most likely be self-evident, and you would have made a highly informed decision.

Conclusion

I hope and pray for your successful rehabilitation and again assure you that although your situation may seem hopeless now, your feelings are typical; there is hard data to prove you CAN resume a normal, happy life, and that is just what you are going to do.

Good luck, and may triumph soon be yours !

  • There has been a lot of excitement over the past several months regarding “The Secret” and the Law of Attraction.

Oprah Winfrey has devoted a couple of shows to the topic. It’s been on Larry King as well as CNN.

With all the fuss, fan fare, and attention, many people still don’t know what all the buzz is about.

So, let’s get down to basics.

First and foremost, the Law of Attraction is a natural law of nature which has been taught by every religion around the world since the beginning of time. Based on Quantum Physics, the Law of Attraction states that like energies attract like energies. It further states that whatever we give our attention, energy and focus to, we will attract into our lives, whether wanted or unwanted.

Let’s face it, folks. We are all vibrational beings, living in a vibrational world – all of which was created by energy. Everywhere you look are atoms, protons, neutrons, electrons, all revolving around, emitting vibrational energy into the universe. Even our thoughts emit energy which has been documented by medical science as brain waves.

Since the Law of Attraction tells us that whatever we give out attention, energy and focus to will come into our lives, wouldn’t it behoove us to be a bit more selective as to what we think about or focus on? The answer is a resounding, YES!

Think about the potential this has to improve the quality of life.

Think of the powerful results you can obtain by using Law of Attraction in your business!

The beautiful thing about this great law is that it doesn’t matter what type of business you are in, who you are, or where you live. The law works for every business as well as everybody – all the time, around the world. It is always at work, whether you choose to acknowledge it or not.

Some people, me included, prefer to work with the Law of Attraction. I love unleashing its power. It has added more success to my business and also given me much more joy in my life.

So, how do you go about using the Law of Attraction in your business?

The first thing I would suggest is that you create a “business plan”. This is not the traditional business plan that most of us are familiar with. Your plan will outline, in great detail, all the business goals you have for this year – all of them, large and small.

When writing this business plan, it is important to write in the present tense, as if you have already achieved the success you desire. Seem a bit odd to you? Relax, there is a method to my madness.

While writing your goals, I invite you to describe in detail such things as how you are spending all the extra money you’re making. List each of the wonderful, exciting things you are doing and how others involved in your life or business are benefiting. Describe the new clothes, new car, fancy sailboat or yacht. Elaborate on how much more you enjoy your job. Pay a lot of attention to your vacations, holidays, company picnics, the new house, vacation property, and so on.

One of your business goals may be to create a new, strategic marketing plan. You may choose to describe your new marketing plan as “one that works easily and effectively” and “brings dozens of excited new customers into the business daily”. Your products appear to be “flying off the shelves” as more and more customers eagerly request the products and services you offer. Get the picture?

Whatever your goals are, it is very important to write them down and in as much detail as possible.

Once your business plan is complete, read what you have written – out loud. Use emotions such as passion & enthusiasm when doing this. Listen to your words. Pay attention to how they make you feel. As you continue reading, you should begin feeling a bit lighter, happier, more focused and motivated.

Read your business plan often, everyday if possible. The more you read it, the greater your focus will be. The more you think the same thoughts, the greater the potential for achieving your goals becomes. Think these thoughts often enough and you will actually transform them into a belief. Herein lies the beauty of the plan – Once you have created a belief, manifestation of your goals comes quickly.

Often, in business, we become distracted and can easily loose focus of our goals. Before we realize it, stress and tension have started to replace our enthusiasm and motivation.

Reading your business plan will help increase your vibrational energy. You will be able to clearly focus on your goals – bringing you closer to achieving them.

With the Law of Attraction, focusing on what you want is a very important part of the attracting process. After all, the law states that whatever we give our attention, energy, and focus to, we will attract into our life.

Creating a business plan, such as outlined in the paragraphs above, is a fun and powerful means to becoming clear about what you want for your business this year and every year. It is also a great tool to help maintain your focus and motivation.

Try doing this yourself. Write down your business goals and in as much detail as you can. Then, imagine already having all that you desire and how this success makes you feel. Write your feelings down as well. Go ahead, let those creative juices flow. Then read your plan. Read it aloud and with gusto! Do this for at least one month and watch what happens. Not only will you find it enjoyable, but effective too. Often in only a few days, subtle changes will begin occurring in your business. Now things can really get exciting.

Keep focused and prepare to receive what you have asked for. Remember, when working with the Law of Attraction, you get clear about what you want, ask for your desires, raise your vibrations, and then allow them to come to you. It really is that simple.

The Law of Attraction will respond and you will begin to see your goals coming closer and closer.

You truly can have the success you want and the lifestyle you desire. Isn’t it time you took charge of creating the business you’ve been dreaming about?

Creating your business plan is just one of the many tools you can use to unleash the power of the Law of Attraction.

Remember, whatever we give our attention, energy and focus to, we will attract into our life. So, focus, focus, focus, and the Law of Attraction will deliver.

    Happy attracting J

  • Don’t Settle for Less

What happens when a sense of dissonance is ignored? More likely than not, it will result in a life filled with regret and bitterness.

A good friend of mine, Pat, has been married for about twenty-three years. She and her husband have three kids, plenty of money and a beautiful home. There is abundance in their lives in terms of material items.

They hardly talk with the exception of check-ins on the children’s schedules. My friend is a gregarious and curious human being who loves people; she loves to immerse herself in deep discussions about any number of things. She loves to learn and grow

She is desperate for communication with her husband; for a deeper connection with him. She wants to experience more love and caring but he just doesn’t go there: he doesn’t do “deep” discussions or open up emotionally. He doesn’t seem curious at all about the so-called “deeper” things that fascinate Pat. She feels she hardly knows him. She knows her girlfriends better.

What to do? First, she needs to accept the fact that we have control over only one person in our lives: ourselves. Try as you might, people change only when they decide they need and/or want to change. Have you had relationships that went south? Did you attempt to fix the other person? How did that work out? If you did manage to see significant change in that person, trust me, it was because they made the decision to change. You might have nudged them in the right direction – but unless they were fully committed of their own volition – it wasn’t going to happen.

So back to Pat. If she wants change in her life, if she wants more, it’s up to her and her alone. She needs to get very clear about what she wants in her life. What has real meaning for her; what are her passions; who is she (minus all her roles in life) and who is she becoming?

Whenever we hit a major life challenge or life transition, it is important not to make any fast decisions before we gain clarity. We must start with inner work. It’s important to take stock of yourself. Envision a future that will be fulfilling, that will be in full alignment with what matters the most to you. Forget about whether it seems possible. Work in the arena of, “If it was totally possible, I would…” What would the first steps be to achieving that vision?

Don’t go it alone. If you are serious about change, get support. Do the inner work. Ensure that you get reflective time every day by meditating, taking long walks in nature, doing yoga or just being silent. Whatever clears your mind. A clear mind is the key. You need clarity in order to make choices.
Try to look at the situation without any preconceived notions or judgments. Forget your habitual way of seeing the world. Drop your personal, past-based filter. Let go of emotional turbulence. Once you can look at reality the way it really is versus the way you perceive it through whatever-colored glasses you wear, you will start to see options that never existed before. Soon you will be in touch with your real desires and intentions. In other words, it will come to you. Trust your instincts.

Get in touch with what you value in life and where your passions lie. Connect with them. Consider what you are willing to accept for yourself and what you will say no to. A favorite quote of mine states that, “We are defined by what we say no to.” That says a great deal.

Pat is doing the work it takes to gain true clarity about what she intends for her future. At the same time, she is also making the effort to communicate with her husband in a way that comes not from an emotional state, where everything ends up being highly reactive, but from the place where she is connected to her values. She is working on being what she believes.

One thing is for certain. Pat knows full well that life is short. As we get older, we see that all too clearly. If we are unhappy, dissatisfied or looking for more in our lives, we need to honor ourselves and not settle for less than what we deserve. In this country’s Declaration of Independence it states that we all are entitled “to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Act on it.

We all deserve a life that we can look back on with a deep sense of satisfaction; to have people in our lives who nurture us; to do work that we love and which gives us a sense of accomplishment. We deserve love in our lives as well as good friends and family. As we age, we come to the realization that our time is limited. The time for change is now.

Just because we deserve these things does not mean we will have them. It remains our responsibility to create a life worth living. It is a wise person who takes the initiative to create meaningful change in their life instead of being someone who whines that life is not giving them what they want. To acquire a life worth living means not settling for less. Not settling for less means taking action.

What will you do now, today, to get what you want? What will you say no to? What will you say yes to? The answers you make in response to these questions will certainly define the rest of your life.

You can live a life that truly works and you can achieve peak performance in all areas of your life. You can not only survive life’s unexpected changes and transitions but also thrive. Powerful change is possible. You are fully capable of creating a life that you choose.
