CNN’s Paula Zahn did a special report which aired Monday January 29, 2007. Her topic was ‘Words that Wound.’ One of her guest was Lauren Lake an African American female attorney. Attorney Lake is eloquently informed and clearly outraged by the continued racism she sites in the events shrouding the world in which we live.

Many people continue to feel berated, humiliated and offended by those who would attack and project hatred and bigotry onto them.

I can personally remember feeling awful at being called the b-word, n-word and names that played into fueling my sense of inferiority as a Black and as a woman.

‘Sticks and stones can hurt my bones but words can’t hurt me,’ is a phrase that we’ve discovered as an untruth. People, adults and children are often hurt by unkind words intended to cause harm, degradation and blame. These words do sting and cause its intended targets to feel victimized.

There was a town hall meeting in Dallas recently proposing to fine anyone five hundred dollars if they were caught using the n-word. People were outraged and the proposal was not passed. The African American folk were the first to say that they would probably be the first ones to break the law. Some claim that the word can be used in a derogatory way or that it can be used in an endearing way.

Institutional Racism is indeed alive and well was accurately pointed out by Attorney Lake. She is extremely articulate on the ramifications of racism and its debilitating effects on black people in these United States.

To be in the world but not of the world is to take a different stance. When we are identified in the world as the current society labels individuals and groups of individuals based on ethnicity, gender, sexual identity, economic class and nationality we are at effect. We are at the effect of taking on the mindset of the intended abuse and misinformation. By misinformation I am referring to the negative insults targeted at certain groups of human beings.

Now, this ‘is’ the way of the world. It’s not fair out there. It is biased, prejudiced, unlawful, dishonest, bigoted, and undeserved.

In a society where religious values are purportedly prevalent, we need to stand on principles that enable us to be immune to these types of negative outcries and falsities.

How do we do that? How do we stand unafraid, unmoved and unashamed in the face of name calling intended to harm, harass and humiliate?

First, we can remember some coaching from a very holy man of long ago who said, ‘to be in the world but not of the world.’ Yes, we are in it. But let us know who we really are in the face of challenges, problems, and seeming injustices.

Know that as ‘A Course in Miracles’ tells us that it is only your attack thoughts that can wound you. “Nothing real can be threatened.” What is ‘real’ is that you are Spirit. You are eternal and permanent. You are invulnerable! Attack thoughts attack your invulnerability. It is in your own ‘thinking’ and beliefs that makes you feel vulnerable to words, threats or attack thoughts.

No matter how much you believe in your temporality, vulnerability, and weaknesses, the truth is still the true. No matter how much we are misinformed. And we are misinformed. The truth is the truth is the truth. Anytime we think we are less than a perfect child of God we are off base. Anytime we think anyone else is less than a perfect child of God we are wrong.

We live inside a split mind. One is the human, frail and seemingly sinful nature. This is the part that buys into living in the world as if it is the truth of us and others. This is the false reality that bears false witness to the truth of God’s kingdom.

God’s Kingdom lives in the part of our minds that knows only perfection, love, kindness and truth. It finds no fault, no sin or attack. It is truly benign, joyful and at peace. We can access that part of our minds where the most High dwells.

But in order to do that we must give up offending and taking offense. Both are of the same thread, woven from the same cloth. When offense is given the profound invitation is to take on the ‘new f word.’ The new ‘f’ word is ‘forgiveness.’ We must learn to forgive. Not from a place of superiority but from a place of knowing that you are made in the image and likeness of God. And as such you are invulnerable. Whenever we take offense we attest to the opposite. We say that we are merely human, vulnerable, weak and at the effect of things and people where we have no power.

All power and strength is given to him who know from whence his power comes. My strength cometh from the Lord, My God.

I ask you, “Was Nelson Mandella disempowered by the name calling, bigotry, injustice and imprisonment of twenty seven years?” Did he not know from whence his power come? Did he not become an incredible example of God’s awesome strength and power?

Even though Ann Frank is dead she continues to inspire masses to live and to love beyond what seems possible.

There are myriad examples of people who have risen above the world, and the awful circumstances they encountered and overcame.

It takes practice and commitment to stop giving allegiance to the demeaning ways of the world and the individualized separate self and instead use every opportunity to love, be kind, include, forgive and bless those that attempt to hurt you.
So in the end embrace the new ‘f’ word like it’s a pot of gold. Drink from this well of forgiveness for here is where you will find the refuge, strength and stamina to rise above the world, to be in the world but not of the world.

Eventually, you will reap the glorious benefits of living in a state of joy, peace and incredible love.

No matter what you think or how you feel, the truth is always true.

Know who you are and never again be offended by a word. Nor be offended by the false opinions hurled in your direction. Be not offended by an untruth. Forgive them, for they know not what they do.

“Know ye not that ye are gods? Psalms 82:6

“…………take heart. I have overcome the world.” John (16:33)

  • Many people set goal or goals and attempted to achieve them within certain set time frame. But very few can achieve their goal. How many times we have heard of people setting a “New Year Resolution” but every year they are just updating this resolution with a new “target end date”. Why is it that most people cannot achieve their goal but few people can? What makes these few individual so special that they can achieve goal, at times beyond the imagination of many people?

What makes ordinary people achieving the extraordinary? Apart from having a clear goal in mind, one key element is “a Compelling Reason”. Most people fail to achieve their goal because they lack of a compelling reason.

A compelling reason provides the crucial motivational force for one to focus and continuously push themselves to their limit, out of their comfort zone and eventually achieving their goal. A compelling reason is also the power that assists the individual to overcome every challenge that comes along the way towards the journey of success.

A goal without the backing of a compelling reason is merely a paper talk and will continue to be only existed as a written New Year Resolution.

Therefore for every individual to be able to achieve their goal, they not only must have a clear goal in mind, they must confront themselves to identify the reason why they want to achieve the goal. The failure of achieving the goal must provide a consequence that put the person in an extremely uncomfortable state.

Does this mean that all those who do not achieve their goal did not have a compelling reason to their goal? No, it is usually not the case. What is lacking is the awareness of the compelling reason. The reason is in their subconscious mind. Therefore to bring out the awareness of such compelling reason, require a conscious effort.

One technique is to magnify the effect. Magnify the effect of the consequence of achieving the goal. By visualizing the kind of joy when achieving the goal, for example the ability to travel around the world. Magnify the effect of the consequence of not achieving the goal. Visualize the kind of pain that you are suffering when not achieving the goal. For a person who wants to be able to retire young at age of 45, he can imagine himself at the age of 55 still have to continue working for others, doing work that are not part of his passion, working long hour and only getting a fraction of his pay when he was 10 years ago.

Like what Anthony Robbins mentioned, everything we do is to avoid pain and to achieve pleasure. By magnifying the pain when not achieving the goal and magnifying the joy of achieving it, it will help to bring it to the conscious awareness of the compelling reason for pursuing the goal.

  • Time Management Progressed

In order to develop a time management scheme that works with our intended goals, we have to learn some of the basic layouts in planning time management. To develop a successful time management scheme we must evaluate time and calculate it against time. In other words, we must sit down and ask our self how long does it take us to eat? How long does it take us to complete a task? How much time are we wasting? Are we spending quality time with the most important people in our lives, or are we spending our quality time on things that do not matter.

Where our time goes is essential since time management is the process of gaining flexibility and cutting back time. As you can see, life is a game of loose and gain. Even in time management, we are gaining something and loosing something, but the advantage of time management is that we are loosing something that brings us rewards and gaining something that brings us bigger rewards. It is a no loose situation if we plan time management right. Let the game begin!

Ok, you start you morning out with a healthy breakfast and going off to work with a positive attitude. When you get to work, you have your list of things to do in front of you, your desk is clear of clutter, and when you sit down and fire up that computer the machine is running smoothly…sounds too good to be true, but it can happen. If you look back in this paragraph, you will note I referred to “list of things to do.”

Time management includes making notes or lists of things that you are responsible for completing in a day. The list can start with smaller tasks and lead to bigger tasks. It depends on the person and what is expected of them, but for the most part, it is the process of elimination. When you sit down at your desk and there is a list in front of you, you already know what is expected of you. Therefore, you can just jump right into action and finish the task. Notice I said FINISH the task. You should always finish one task before moving to another task, unless your job requires skills of multi-tasking. Once you finish the first task, you can move onto the next time and follow in pursuit. Once you completed all your tasks, sit back for a moment in a comfortable position and think of what you accomplished. When tomorrow comes, you will notice you do not have any backups, and that your day is running smoothly with new tasks laid out in front of you.

Now, we can take a look at the computer. Your company is responsible to keep up maintenance on your computer, but you are responsible to notify the proper individuals when your computer is flopping. If you computer is operating smoothly you know your time management scheme is flowing smoothly, but if you notice that your computer is acting like a limping soldier, then you probably noticed problems earlier and failed to tell the boss. Or, it could be that this is the day that you computer decided to let you know that someone wasn’t keeping up maintenance, or “you worked me too hard, I need replacement.” Whatever the case, someone was negligence, or both were negligence, which means your time is going out the door while you wait for the technician to patch up your computer, or else wait for the delivery man to bring in the box.

Time management includes making sure that things are running smoothly by maintaining your equipment, informing others when things go wrong, or upgrading when necessary. If you desk is clear when you enter your office, this should let you know that you are doing a good job, and motivate you to keep up the good work. You are saving time, since if your desk was cluttered you would be in your office early in the morning digging around for the list that your boss provided you. Now that you are on the road to time management progressed, you will next want to look at how you invest your time outside of work.

  • 7 Tips to Make You More Creative

Many great things have started as a simple, creative idea. Consider donating some of your best ideas to help others. The more creative you are, the more ideas you will be able to create. You can be creative even if you don’t think you are.

I have known many people who were scared to use a computer for the first few times. However, after diving into it they became more comfortable. They were willing to take a risk and make some mistakes. The result was an ability to learn and do things they would never be able to do without the use of a computer.

Being creative and thinking up world-changing ideas occurs in the same way. Everyone can be creative but they have to be willing to start. The creative process will then become more natural over time.

Try the following tips to help you on your journey to be more creative:

    1. Record your ideas on whatever is comfortable and convenient at the moment. What is important is that you record your ideas. In the past, I have forgotten ideas that I thought of when I was on a walk. Now I carry a digital recorder with me on those walks. At other times I use my computer, notepad or journal. Choose what will work best for you and make sure you have a way to record your ideas at all times. You never know when an important idea will surface.

    2. Don’t limit yourself to ideas that seem possible. Capture all of your ideas. Even those that seem impossible to implement are important for a couple of reasons. First, what seems impossible to you may not be impossible sometime in the future or for someone else. Second, impossible ideas encourage further creative ideas that might be more likely to be implemented.

    3. Change your scenery or location. A change in scenery can stimulate the creativity inside you. A change might be as simple as looking out a window. You can also visit someplace new like a park, beach, or mall. The new environment can foster new ideas.

    4. Read on many topics. It is amazing how many things in a totally unrelated subject can prompt new ideas. By broadening your knowledge into more areas, you make your creativity potential grow.

    5. Go for a walk. Some of my best ideas have happened when I was on a walk. This applies to any form of moderate exercise. I have heard of others who have written articles and speeches while walking or jogging.

    6. Focus in 10-15 minute increments. It does not take a significant amount of time to brainstorm some potential ideas. In fact, brainstorming works best when done for short periods of time. Concentrate for a few minutes on generating as many ideas to address a specific area or problem. Then capture anything that comes to mind throughout the rest of the day (see tip #1). You will have several ideas for consideration for little investment of time. One of those could become something tremendous for helping others.

    7. Think big. What question are you asking to prompt your ideas? The larger the question, the larger the impact those ideas may have on the world. You can start by addressing smaller problems, but don’t limit yourself to those. You have unique experiences, knowledge and talents that should be applied to helping others on a grand scale as well.

Follow these tips and you will be on your way to generating ideas that have the potential to change the world. Don’t let your previous lack of creativity keep you from developing and donating your ideas. Get started today.
